Have you ever been baking or cooking and realized that your eggs are spoilt or rotten? That can be a really painful experience.
In this article, I’ll be talking about some of the best ways to discover if your eggs are genuinely bad before throwing them away. See them below;
1. Break the egg into a small dish and inspect the color.
The color of the yolk varies according on the hen’s diet, therefore the tint of yellow or orange has nothing to do with freshness. Instead, look at the albumen, or egg white. If the egg appears pink, green, or grey, it has been tainted with bacteria and should not be eaten. If the inside of the egg has black or green patches, it has been tainted by fungus and should be discarded.
2. Break the egg open and notice if it smells.
This is the most telling sign of a poor egg. When you crack open a bad egg, it will emit a distinct, nasty odor. The sulfurous odor will be noticeable as soon as the egg is cracked and probably even before that. Whether the egg is raw or cooked, it will have this unpleasant odor.
3. See if it spreads out on a large plate.
If an egg is spoilt, its stickiness deteriorates, and it will not keep together as well as a fresh egg. Check to observe if the egg spreads out over a large area on the plate or if it stays compact.
4. Place the egg into a glass of cold water and see if it floats.
Inside eggs, there is a little air pocket, and as time passes, more and more air flows through their porous shells and into the egg. If your egg floats when you put it on a glass of cold water, it means it is bad and should be thrown away.
