Sleeping on your left side prevents acids from entering your esophagus which will, in turn, protect you from acid reflux.
2 Eat Your Supper Earlier: eating late can worsen heartburn and acid reflux because there is a high possibility that if you eat late, you will go to bed before your food digests.
Laying down makes it difficult for food to digest which can cause acid reflux and heartburn. Eat at least three hours before your bedtime.
3 Limit Your Intake Of Certain Drinks: drinking certain drinks can worsen your heartburn so, it is best to limit your intake of such drinks or, even stop drinking them entirely.
You should avoid or, limit your intake of drinks like alcohol, coffee, soft drinks, and drinks made from citrus fruits like oranges.
4 Chew Gum: chewing gum has been proven to be an effective way preventing of acid reflux and heartburn especially if the chewing gum contains bicarbonate.
Chewing gum helps to prevent acid from accumulating in the esophagus by increasing the production of saliva. However, avoid chewing gum that contains sugar.
5 Eat Small Quantities Of Food Regularly: eating large meals at the same time can cause acid reflux or worsen an already existing acid reflux because too much food puts too much pressure on your esophageal muscles which will allow acid from your stomach to escape into your esophagus and cause acid reflux and heartburn.
But, eating small quantities of food multiple times a day can prevent and reduce the effects of acid reflux and heartburn.
6 Eat Low Fat Foods: high-fat foods are notorious for causing heartburn. Fried foods are especially known to cause heartburn in some people which is why you should avoid them if you suffer from acid reflux and heartburn.
Also, avoid other foods that contain high fats like junk and butter.
